In a groundbreaking move, Supplyframe has announced the launch of Electronics Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), a revolutionary source for sustainability intelligence in the electronics industry. This innovative offering provides global manufacturers with instant access to product carbon footprint data for more than 300 million electronic parts, addressing compliance reporting needs and paving the way for more sustainable product design and sourcing decisions.
The introduction of this new capability comes at a crucial time as new European Union regulations and evolving U.S. rules are compelling manufacturers to quantify and report their supply chain emissions. While electronics manufacturers have primarily focused on reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions to comply with regulations and corporate sustainability goals, an estimated 40% of CO2 emissions associated with electronics products fall under Scope 3. These emissions are related to supplier manufacturing processes, material consumption, and transportation modes.
Until now, companies have had little to no information about CO2 emissions associated with the electronics components they purchase, creating a significant blind spot for global manufacturers seeking to measure product carbon footprint for electronics content in their innovation portfolios. Supplyframe CEO and founder Steve Flagg emphasizes that this new capability provides engineers and procurement teams with specific product carbon footprint details to meet regulatory reporting requirements and identify better alternatives that balance corporate goals of efficiency, cost optimization, and sustainability.
Supplyframe's new offering provides immediate access to emissions data for millions of parts, significantly reducing the time and effort required to calculate carbon footprint at the part or component level of a complex bill of material (BOM). This process, which previously could take weeks or months, is now available at users' fingertips.
The new capability measures the total carbon impact from material selection to end-of-life, expressed in kilograms of CO2 equivalent. It is integrated into Supplyframe's DSI Platform, which already delivers industry-leading part intelligence and supply market insights. This foundational offering leverages the sustainability partner ecosystem of Siemens, Supplyframe's parent company, and is set to expand as part of a broader set of metrics and analytics capabilities.
Richard Barnett, chief marketing officer and SaaS sales leader at Supplyframe, states that this foundational new capability will help customers embark on their sustainability journeys by adding discrete part-level product carbon footprint measures to their existing processes. Supplyframe's intelligence-based solutions aim to create a more connected, resilient, and efficient electronics value chain.
The new CO2e capability is available as an add-on subscription to Supplyframe's DSI platform, offering electronics manufacturers a powerful tool to drive sustainability initiatives and meet evolving regulatory requirements.
