ASHRAE’s international headquarters in Atlanta has earned four Green Globes — the highest rating — in addition to its original LEED Platinum rating.
Jerry Yudelson, president of Green Building Initiatives, which oversees the green building program, says only 3 percent of projects assessed by GBI achieve four Globes certification.
Sustainable measures include ongoing benchmarking in Energy Star for energy and water consumption, energy audits through ASHRAE’s Building Energy Quotient system, quarterly inspection and maintenance of systems containing ozone depleting substances, water audits for leaks and regular monitoring of recycling efforts and waste reduction and diversion rate.
Whole Foods, Aldi’s and Publix are among the grocery stores across the US adopting Green Globes for green building certification, according to GBI, which has been gunning for its rival LEED certification as the two compete to be the US green building rating system of choice.
