Xcel Energy’s Building Optimization Pilot Program will use a predictive energy optimization energy management software platform from BuildingIQ in a pilot program in Colorado. The software uses predictive analytics for intelligent building management. Factors such as occupant comfort, the buildings' characteristics, historical data and weather forecasts are data elements that are analyzed.
The pilot will feature about 10 commercial buildings in Xcel’s footprint that average a summer peak load of more than 500kW. The goal is for BuildingIQ’s cloud-based software is to facilitate a reduction in daily energy consumption. These buildings will participate in demand response relief, which eases pressure on the utility during peak demand.
Cordis, the European Union’s Community Research and Development Information Service, is studying smart buildings in the Extremadura region of Spain. The initiative, which is part of the MeeFS project, uses data such as the sun's orientation for photovoltaic cells and water feeds for green elements of the project to extend buildings' energy efficiency.
