Wisconsin and San Antonio are launching separate initiatives to push area manufacturers toward innovation and adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Wisconsin is getting $28 million under the American Recovery Act to reduce fossil fuel use in manufacturing by adding renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, reports BizJournals.com. The state also will be offering incentives for businesses to retool to produce components of renewable energy systems and energy efficient products.
In San Antonio, the "Lean, Clean Energy" program is designed for medium-sized manufacturers, with the goal of making business and operations more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
The pilot program, which is the first of its kind in the nation, is a cooperative project between CPS Energy, the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, Southwest Research Institute, the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, reports BizJournals.com.
Lean, Clean Energy aims to reduce electrical demand among San Antonio manufacturers by 9 megawatts by 2020. It is part of CPS Energy’s Save for Tomorrow Energy Plan, or STEP, which has a goal to reduce San Antonio electricity demand 771 MW by 2020.
