Walmart has once again secured its place atop the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) on-site generation Partner list. On January 27, EPA released updated lists of the top Green Power Partners that are choosing to use electricity from renewable sources.
The Top 30 On-Site Generation list represents partners generating and consuming the most green power on-site within the Green Power Partnership. Walmart has topped the EPA’s on-site generation list since January 2013, generating more than 200 million kWh of green power annually. Apple came in second with just over 112 million kWh, and the US Department of Energy came in third with almost 96 million kWh. Rounding out the top five on-site generation list are BMW Manufacturing facilities in Greer, SC, and the City of Philadelphia.
The combined on-site green power consumption of the top 30 organizations amounts to nearly 858 million kWh of green power annually.
New to the National Top 100 list are the National Hockey League (17), American Express (50), Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (86), and Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (100). Intel Corporation continues to top the list, using more than three billion kWh of green power annually to cover 100 percent of its electricity load. Microsoft Corporation moved up to number two in the rankings with a green power total of more than 2.4 billion kWh for its US operations.
As part of the EPA’s Green Power Partnership, nearly 1,300 organizations are using nearly 28 billion kWh of green power annually. The Partnership provides quarterly updated lists of Partners using green power nationwide and within sectors, as well as those using 100 percent green power and with long-term green power contracts.
