Nineteen companies including Walmart and Bumble and Bumble have been fined a total of $233,175 for air pollution violations in California, according to the Air Resources Board.
The 19 cases involved companies manufacturing or selling consumer products that exceeded California’s standards for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), amounting to more than 11 tons of excess VOC emissions. The products ranged from nail polish removers and bathroom cleaners to charcoal lighter materials and air fresheners.

Earlier this month Conopco, a Unilever subsidiary and the consumer goods company’s US business, agreed to settle two cases with the Air Resources Board and pay $362,500 for air pollution violations related to the sale of hair styling products in California.
