virginiaThe Commonwealth of Virginia announced today that it will increase the proportion of renewable energy in its operations by 8 percent during the next three years, according to NBC29. Solar power will be used to achieve the goals of the project, the story said. The announcement was made in conjunction with the release of a report from the Governor’s Climate Change and Resiliency Update Commission.

The solar projects will be built on state-owned property and the power will be consumed by state agencies. The projects will be a combination of utility and private third-party projects, from utility-size wind farms to small onsite initiatives, the story said.

The Commonwealth also announced that it has reached an agreement with Dominion Virginia Power to deploy 110 MW of solar power. The utility will build 75 percent of the capacity and third party solar developers the other quarter, the press release says.
