Next Step Living has acquired MVP Energy, creator of the EcoThermal Filter System, a clean energy technology for commercial kitchens.
The EcoThermal Filter System captures waste heat from the cook line to preheat water. The waste heat moves through the grease filters and blows over embedded heat exchangers and the water is preheated. That preheated water flows to the water storage tank to be used as needed.
EcoThermal Filter System can integrate into existing commercial kitchens and immediately start saving energy, according to Kerry Miller, director of membership services, at the Massachusetts Restaurant Association.
Next Step Living is initially targeting the Boston metro area for the filter system. There is a 70 percent subsidy available for National Grid customers with return on investment expected within two years, says the company.
Among local restaurants piloting the system are the Stockyard in Brighton, Mass., and Cape Cod Irish Village in South Yarmouth, Mass.
