Earlier this week, Energy Manager Today blogged on issues related to municipalities' moves to require buildings to report their energy usage. One of the cities cited was Orlando, FL, which is considering such a measure.
Last night, the Orlando City Council voted to delay taking action on the measure, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The report says that Mayor Buddy Dyer wanted the ordinance to move forward, but was overruled by city commissioners. They, according to the report, said “it needed more work.”
The Water and Building Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy would require buildings of more than 50,000 square feet to report and be scored on water and electrical usage every five years. The issue is considered important: More than 40 members of the public asked to speak on it, according to the story.
The mayor said he would bring the issue up again in October, according to the report.
