Vulcan Solar Power has been selected by the University of Alabama at Birmingham for construction of a commercial-scale solar facility. The solar project is the first undertaken by the university.
The Birmingham Business Journal says that the solar array will be placed atop the Campus Recreation Center in a contract with a value of $120,000. Construction is expected to being in mid June and to be completed in about two weeks, according to the story.
The press release stresses the desire of Vulcan to help create jobs in the state. Vulcan Solar CEO Rob Ozols suggests that the state is subsidizing other states by not taking advantage of available federal tax credits for which such projects can qualify.
This week, Des Moines University selected Revolution Lighting Technologies for an LED retrofit of its eight campus buildings. The new T8 SEP LED tubes will have a return-on-investment of 1.5 years, the company said.
