Two dealerships in Texas have gone solar.
Covert Ford and Covert Chevrolet of Hutto, TX, have installed solar panels that collectively generate 120 KW of energy. Each dealership has installed a 60 KW system consisting of 192 panels. The solar arrays are expected to reduce the dealerships’ grid requirements by 53 percent.
The press release says that Covert of Hutto is the first Ford dealership to “go solar.” The initial investment was $193,000 for the projects, which were installed by Freedom Solar. Covert Ford got a federal tax credit for 30 percent of the project’s total as well as a utility rebate for 20 percent of the total system cost.
At the Environmental Leader 2016 Conference earlier this year in Denver, GM Executive Director for Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Mari Kay Scott described the company’s energy efficiency approach and highlighted some projects.
