Treasure Mountain Inn Adds Solar

tmiTreasure Mountain Inn has added solar panels to its roof, which will help the hotel reduce the amount of wind energy it purchases.

Previously, the 56-suite hotel in Park City, Utah, purchased 100 percent of its electricity as wind power, through the Utah Power Blue Sky Program, according to Green Lodging News.

The 18 solar panels cost about $35,000. Treasure Mountain Inn was not able to take advantage of any tax credits because the property is considered a condo hotel and is governed by a homeowners association, reports Hotel News Resource.

"It's an ideal use for a half-acre of flat, sun-baked roofs," owner Andy Beerman told UtahPulse.

Before adding solar and wind energy, the hotel took steps to reduce energy use 20-30 percent, including switching 2,000 light fixtures over to fluorescent and LED bulbs.

The hotel also uses Energy Star rated appliances, as well as motion sensors and timers for lights.
