For companies that rent a range of diesel-powered equipment, a new tracking service allows companies to track emissions from that equipment.
With the federal government requiring agencies to begin tracking emissions, this sort of service could become more prevalent, said Kevin Groman, Senior Vice President of RSC Equipment Rental, which has been developing the new service for the past year.
RSC developed formulas that account for the hours of use, load factor, fuel consumption, density conversion, emission factors and engine horsepower/tier level.
In addition to carbon dioxide, RSC's news system also tracks methane, nitrous oxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, particular matter and hydrocarbons, according to a press release.
The formulas work with diesel-powered equipment that use hour meters. RSC prints total greenhouse gas emissions that result from use of the rented equipment on rental invoices.
