Toyota announced that Mark Miller Toyota is expected to be the first dealership in Utah to receive LEED Gold certification.
Some of the dealership's environmentally friendly installations include: sun-tracking skylights to optimize natural daylight use to lower interior light use; a cool-roof system to lower the overall heat that comes off large buildings; self-sustaining landscaping that requires a minimal amount of water; low-flow faucets and toilets as well as waterless urinals to conserve water and use of 300 MPH paperless hand dryers; and a cistern system to collect and store rainwater and air conditioning condensation for irrigation and for washing cars.
Besides Mark Miller Toyota, five other Toyota dealerships in the country are built and either have received or are in the process of being reviewed for LEED certification.
In May, Toyota announced that it expects to have 100 environmentally friendly dealerships -or just under 10 percent of its U.S. dealer network by 2011.
In April, a Toyota dealership in Rockwall, Texas became the first dealership to be awarded LEED Gold certification.
The trend in green car dealerships was spotted last year with MSNBC reporting that at least 16 green car dealerships that offer multiple alternative vehicles had opened in 10 states.
