Toshiba’s Digital Products Division announced it has extended its free recycling program beyond Toshiba laptops to include e-waste with no market value and that it does not require consumers to purchase Toshiba products.
The company offers users the option of trading in their used products for cash with no obligation to purchase a Toshiba product. The trade-in value of old consumer electronic products can be determined by visiting Toshiba's product value estimator.
The company recently released Toshiba Groups Environmental Report 2008 (PDF). Toshiba set a target of reducing projected CO2 emissions by about 118 million tons a year by 2025, which will be achieved by developing and selling highly efficient power supply equipment and systems and the manufacturing of environmentally conscious home appliances and office equipment.
The company has also set a goal of recycling 12 million pounds of e-waste in the U.S. by 2010.
Toshiba's Tecra A9-S9013 was picked by PC Magazine as one of the greenest computers on the market.
In March, the company announced new environmental targets, including eco-labels.
