Timex Group inaugurated one of the largest solar power installations in the northeast, reports the EarthTimes. The 800-panel array at their Middlebury headquarters in Connecticut will generate 285,000 kWh a year – enough electricity to power nearly 32 average Connecticut homes.
The project was financed partly through tax credits and a $920,000 grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF). Timex contracted with Alteris Renewables, a leading renewable energy company in the Northeast, to handle installation.
Other large corporate solar arrays in the US include a 3 million kWh array built by Hall's Warehouse in New Jersey, and a 1.3 million kWh installation on the roof of a General Motors operations warehouse in California. GM also installed what it claims is the world's largest rooftop solar array - producing 15.1 million kWh annually - on an assembly plant in Spain.
