tfThe Lauderhill, Fla., location of Tijuana Flats has added numerous energy saving features.

The fast-casual restaurant chain says it plans to continue adding eco-friendly features to future locations, according to a press release. It has more than 70 locations in Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

One of the primary energy saving features of the prototype location is a natural gas tankless water heater, which heats water on-demand, saving energy.

Other energy efficiency improvements include LED lights, an energy management system (EMS) hood, a solar-powered timer, an Energy Star-rated steamer and low flow toilets.

Other restaurants are investing in energy efficiency.

For instance, Ruby Tuesday and Subway are performing energy retrofits at some of their Hawaiian locations, addressing changes in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, large motors, refrigeration and lighting.
