The Association of Energy Engineers’ Certified Energy Manager program is the first to be recognized under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines program.
The guidelines, according to the AEE, is a national framework to help organizations develop training and certification programs that address consistency, quality and scalability issues in the commercial energy efficiency workforce.
A blog at the DoE’s website provided more information on working with the DoE on certification programs. It says that a program must be accredited by a third party to meet ISO/IEC 17024 and IREC 14732 standards. The Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines were created this spring.
AEE represents more than 17,000 energy professionals in 90 countries in energy engineering, energy management, renewables, energy services and sustainability. It has certified more than 28,000 energy professionals since 1981. Today, 15,059 are CEM certified.
