In a novel initiative for sustainable manufacturing, Curbell Plastics’ Arlington, Texas facility has revolutionized its waste management practices. By converting industrial plastic waste into alternative fuel, the facility is setting a new standard for plastic recycling and demonstrating its commitment to zero waste initiatives and a circular economy.

Innovative Waste-to-Energy Program Drives Sustainability

Since May 2024, the Arlington facility has partnered with Service Waste Inc. (SWI) to launch a successful waste-to-energy program. The collaboration processes various industrial waste materials—such as pallets, plastic scraps, and rubber—into Post-Industrial Recycled Fuel (PIRF). This alternative fuel provides a cleaner, more sustainable option compared to coal and is utilized at SWI’s cement plant partner in Midlothian, Texas.

In just a few months, the program has diverted nearly 78 tons of waste from landfills, showcasing the potential for industrial recycling to drive real-world environmental benefits. Additionally, the facility has installed a baler system for recycling corrugated containers, further emphasizing its commitment to comprehensive sustainable manufacturing practices.

Expanding Sustainability Efforts Across the U.S.

Inspired by its headquarters in Orchard Park, NY—which achieved a 100% landfill-free milestone—Curbell Plastics is leveraging the Arlington facility’s success to roll out similar recycling initiatives across the country. Planned expansions will bring these innovations to facilities in Cleveland, Chicago, Brookneal, Phoenix, Jackson, and Houston, underscoring the company’s dedication to advancing sustainability in manufacturing at a national scale.

This nationwide initiative positions them as a leader in industrial recycling and empowers their facilities to embrace alternative fuel production and zero waste solutions.

Industry-Leading Standards in Plastic Fabrication

The Arlington facility is more than a center for sustainable plastic manufacturing—it’s also a key hub for industrial customers across three states. With 57 skilled employees operating out of an 80,000-square-foot facility, Arlington offers services such as custom plastic fabrication and machining, meeting the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

Currently certified under ISO 9001, the facility is pursuing the prestigious AS9100 certification, reinforcing its dedication to operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
