Tetra Pak reduced CO2 emissions in 2014 across all parts of its value chain by 8 percent from a 2010 baseline; the company increased production by 7 percent over the same time-frame.
The company says it is well on-track to reach its 2020 goal of capping climate impact at 2010 levels while continuing to grow the business.
Tetra Pak says its ratings from the Carbon Disclosure Project climbed from 91 to 97, against an industry average of 53, while its Carbon Performance rating was A–, up from a B rating in 2013 and compared with an industry average of C.
Also in 2014, the company launched a fully renewable carton package, the Tetra Rex Bio-based. Made solely from paperboard and plant-based plastics, including the TwistCap OSO 34 bio-based opening, the package is currently being used by Finnish dairy producer Valio in retail outlets across the country. The package, Tetra Rex Bio-based, is manufactured from a combination of plastics derived from plants and paperboard.
Tetra Pak also secured Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody certification for the last seven of its 92 facilities and legal entities worldwide. This means that the company can deliver FSC labelled packages from anywhere in the world
