According to Consumer Reports, the Tesla initially scored 103 — but the rating system doesn’t go past 100. So Consumer Reports had to change its scoring.
The ratings publication raves about the electric vehicle’s acceleration, from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, “without an engine’s roar makes it frighteningly eerie in its silent velocity.” It also scored high marks for its fuel efficiency.
Last year Tesla reached an agreement with electronics giant Panasonic to build a massive US battery plant near Reno, Nevada. Panasonic, Tesla’s current battery cell supplier, will manufacture and supply cylindrical lithium-ion cells and invest in the equipment, machinery and other tools based on the two companies mutual approval. Meanwhile, Tesla will prepare, provide and manage the land, buildings and utilities.
Panasonic did not reveal how much it will invest into the gigafactory, which is currently under construction. Tesla has said it could cost as much as $5 billion.
