By 2012, Tata Steel aims to reduce its emissions to 1.8 tons of CO2 per ton of steel produced. Currently, Tata Steel emits 2 tons of CO2 for every ton of steel produced, reports MoneyControl.

The improved emissions will coincide with a price hike, although the two were not linked. Tata said that as the global economy improves, the price of steel would firm up and then rise, reports DNA India.
The World Steel Association has created a microsite devoted to steel industry emissions.
At the Copenhagen climate talks, WSA President Ian Christmas said that two-thirds of the steel industry was collecting emissions data, covering about 90 percent of estimated steel industry emissions globally.
Christmas said that while the steel industry has already put hundreds of millions of dollars into emissions-reducing technology, more help was needed from governments.
