Safety and security are the top concerns of building owners surveyed in The Honeywell Smart Building Score.
Honeywell and KRC Research queried operators at almost 500 buildings in seven U.S. cities. While not at the very top, energy issues emerged as a major concern. About half of the buildings reported that they don’t have the right equipment to maximize energy and efficiency, the press release says.
Other notable results: On a scale of 1 to 100, the average smart building score was 35. Twenty-seven percent say green assets are “the most indicative qualities” of what it means to be a smart building. While 82 percent say that energy efficiency is beneficial, only 53 percent think that their building is “technically advanced” enough to maximize that characteristic.
Building managers are feeling their way on energy issues. In another survey, MACH Energy found that 44 percent of 800 facility management professionals have an energy management system (EMS) deployed. Seventy-percent of those 44% of respondents who said that they have an EMS actually only had a building management system (BMS). MACH suggests that this represents confusion – and opportunities for growth – in the sector.
