Standards for Maintenance of Commercial Refrigeration, HVAC Systems Out for ANSI Public Review

Posted

The Air Conditioning Contractors of America Educational Institute Standards Task Team announced ANSI public review for two new standards: “Quality Maintenance of Commercial Refrigeration Systems” and “Restoring the Cleanliness of HVAC Systems.”

The 45-day public review period for the refrigeration systems standard started on May 15, 2015 with a comment deadline of June 29, 2015. The new standard prescribes inspection tasks and offers recommended corrective actions to maintain commonly installed commercial refrigeration equipment and systems found in supermarkets, convenience stores and refrigerated warehouses. Equipment checklists are provided by equipment type and detail the minimum visual inspections, performance tests, measurements and component evaluations.

For the “Restoring the Cleanliness of HVAC Systems” revised industry standard, the 45-day public review period started on May 22, 2015 with a comment deadline of July 6, 2015. The revised standard establishes minimum criteria for the cleaning of HVAC systems that require cleaning activities beyond those performed in normal HVAC maintenance and servicing. The standard also outlines the procedures to control contaminants, which may be released during or after the cleaning process, and to provide methods to verify system cleanliness.
