The EMP Administrative Office Building for the EMP Museum (formerly known as the Experience Music Project) in Seattle, Washington, received LEED Platinum certification. Developed by Vulcan, Inc. and owned by Cedar Strands Properties, the 51,200 sq ft, five-level structure is also the first Salmon-Safe certified urban in-fill project to date and the first Salmon-Safe certified office building in Seattle. A rain water collection system has resulted in 75 percent less water use than code-compliant fixtures, and FSC-certified material was used for 23 percent of the project's wood, according to contractor Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company.
IEC has published the standard IEC 61851-24 ed1.0, Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging System - Part 24: Digital communication between a DC EV charging station and an electric vehicle for control of DC charging.
IEC has issued a pre-release of the official electrical vehicle conductive charging standard IEC 62196-1 ed3.0, Plugs, Socket-Outlets, Vehicle Connectors and Vehicle Inlets – Part 1: General requirements. The voting period runs until May 9.
The IEC has released IEC 60721-2-9 ed1.0, Classification of Environmental Conditions. Parts 2 to 9 are intended to define the strategy for arriving at an environmental description from measured data when related to a product's life cycle. The standard aims to define fundamental properties and quantities for characterization of storage, transportation and in-use shock and vibration data as background material for the severities to which products are liable to be exposed during those phases of their lifecycle.
The IEC has released IEC 60034-30-1 ed1.0, Rotating Electrical Machines - Part 30-1: Efficiency classes of line operated AC motors. IEC 60034-30-1:2014 specifies efficiency classes for single-speed electric motors that are rated according to IEC 60034-1 or IEC 60079-0, for operation on a sinusoidal voltage supply. The standard makes different motor technologies fully comparable with respect to their energy efficiency potential, IEC says.
