TXI Operations, a subsidiary of Texas Industries, announced today that its Midlothian Cement Plant has been awarded the EPA 2012 Energy Star certification for superior energy performance. The award places the cement plant in a category of high-performing, energy-efficient cement plants based on the EPA's energy efficiency performance levels through the National Energy Performance Rating System, the company said.
ASTM International has a new initiative designed to develop guidelines for environmental declarations and claims used in the marketing of roofing products. The new standards will include both product category rules and environmental product declarations. The EPDs will be verified to ensure their adherence to the ISO 14040 standards as well as to ensure that life cycle assessment data is accurate, Construction & Demolition Recycling writes.
BASF's North American headquarters building has become the fifth construction project in the US and the first in New Jersey to achieve two LEED Platinum certification. The 325,000 square foot building, developed in partnership with the Rockefeller Group Development Corporation at The Green at Florham Park, achieved the highest rating for Commercial Interiors (CI) and Core & Shell, the company said.

IT consulting and outsourcing company Wipro Technologies has achieved LEED Gold certification for its flagship data center at Kings Mountain, N.C. The facility features the use of more than 40 percent regionally sourced building materials, new materials using an average 40 percent recycled content and the diversion from landfill of 98 percent of construction waste, the company said.
Fields Volvo in Northfield, Ill., has become the first Volvo store in the country to achieve LEED certification. The new building, constructed of locally sourced materials, includes on-site wind and solar generation and two 2,500-gallon water-retention barrels. The old building that was removed from the site was 90 percent recycled, Windy City Media said.
LED lighting manufacturer Seesmart Technologies, Inc. has completed a $140,000 project with Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State that will help the organization's new West Farms Center achieve LEED design certification. The Seesmart LEDs saved more than $100,000 in installation costs, in addition to $25,000 a year in energy savings, or 66 percent of the association's energy costs, The Examiner said.
