Whole Foods Market has taken steps to assure that personal care products in its US stores are third-party certified when using the word "organic"; the company says it is the first national retailer to do so. The grocery chain says that all personal care products on its domestic shelves are in full compliance with its 2010 organic labeling guidelines, following either USDA organic standards or the NSF 305 organic personal care standard.
Raindrip, a division of NDS, has earned certification under the requirements of EPA WaterSense specifications for weather-based irrigation controllers as listed in ICC-ES PMG-1157. ICC-ES is an evaluation service for building materials, components and systems.
ASHRAE, USGBC and the IES have proposed a green building standard addendum to cover lighting quality. The Mountain View Fire Station 5 in Los Altos, Calif., has earned LEED Gold for operations and maintenance after eight months in operation. The station exceeded the USBGC silver requirements, which are mandated for new buildings in the city. Features of the facility include stormwater collecting and storage areas, reflective roofing and the use of FSC-certified building materials, writes the Los Altos Town Crier.
The Captain Morgan barrel warehouse in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, has received LEED Silver certification. The warehouse is the first LEED-certified facility in the islands. Design features include high-efficiency lighting and HVAC systems and use of recycled building materials, the rum distiller said.
RINL-VSP, the state-run second biggest steel maker in India, has earned ISO 50001 for its energy management system. RINL was the first steel plant and public sector unit certified for Energy Management System BSEN:16001. Third-party certifier BVCI upgraded the manufacturer's EMS in an August audit, Steel Guru said.
EnerNOC, Inc., a provider of commercial and industrial energy management applications, announced that its annual EnergySMART Conference has been certified as a provider of GBCI-approved courses for continuing education. Participants in the conference are eligible for up to 19 general continuing education hours and two Building Design + Construction LEED-specific continuing education hours, the company said.
