ANSI and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council announced that four certificate-awarding entities are currently participating in the ANSI-IREC pilot accreditation program for energy efficiency and renewable energy, the IREC Standard 14732: 2012, General Requirements for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Certificate Programs. The four entities are: CalCERTS, for training and certification of Home Energy Rating System Raters; CleanTech Education, for training solutions focused on solar PV, solar heating, energy efficiency, wind energy, green IT, and smart grid; Building Science Institute, for educating energy and construction professionals; and Midwest Renewable Energy Association, for training on renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Westpak now offers expanded mechanical testing services to solar and renewable energy industries with its Horizontal Impact Test System used to simulate transportation and wind-induced vibration. These mechanical test capabilities complement Westpak's A2LA accreditation to IEC and UL test protocols for flat plate, thin film, and CPV solar technologies, the company said.

Rio Tinto has become the first mining company certified the Responsible Jewellery Council. The certification covers Rio Tinto’s diamond mines; Diavik in Canada, Argyle in Western Australia and Murowa in Zimbabwe; and Kennecott Utah Copper. At present, Rio Tinto’s Bunder diamond project in India and Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia are not included within the audit because they don’t supply the jewellery industry, RJC said. Rio Tinto is a founder member of the council.

Flexible thin-film solar cells and modules manufacturer SoloPower has received certification of its next-generation SF1, SP1, and SP3L SoloPanels to both UL and IEC standards.
