Michelin Americas Truck Tires has added three retreads to the EPA SmartWay list of verified technologies, with four more under review. The verified retreads are the XT-1 AT Pre-Mold for trailer applications and XDA2 19 AT Pre-Mold and XDA2 23 AT Pre-Mold for drive axle applications. The retreads also are compliant with CARB GHG regulations for low-rolling-resistance tires, the company said.
The US Green Building Council is running the fifth public comment period for the proposed LEED v4 update to its green building program, with comments accepted until Dec. 10. When fully launched in 2013, LEED v4 is expected to streamline the certification review and documentation process, the council said.
Intertek's testing laboratory in Fairfield, N.J., has added EPA Energy Star energy efficiency testing to its portfolio of services. Product categories for EPA testing including AV equipment, battery charging systems and computers. The laboratory now can test to standards required for Energy Star, NRCan in Canada, and California Energy Commission standards, the Rock Hill Herald said.
The IEC has created a new technical committee – TC 120 Electrical Energy Storage (EES) Systems – which aims to accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the supply of electrical energy. The new committee will oversee the development of international standards that address various EES technologies and support industry in building reliable EES systems that can be incorporated into existing grids, the commission said.
JetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers, Fla., has earned LEED certification. The Red Sox's new 106-acre spring training and player development complex is expected to save more than $83,000 in annual operating costs, reduce water usage by 1.7 million gallons per year, and cut energy use by 26 percent, compared to a traditionally designed stadium, the team said.
Drexel University earned LEED Gold certification for the new Constantine N. Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building. The 150,000-square-foot structure is the first building on Drexel’s campus to achieve LEED certification. The facility has 44 research and teaching laboratories, and the atrium contains North America’s largest living biowall and the only one at a US university, Drexel said.
Solar Frontier said that its gigawatt-scale Kunitomi solar panel production plant in Japan received ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications. Solar Frontier also meets standards set by Japan Electrical Safety and Environment Technology (JET), the IEC, UL, and the EU RoHS directive, the company said.
Herbal extracts producer Euromed USA has earned ISO 14001 certification after more than $1 million in upgrades, and additional no-cost changes. The changes, including the implementation of biomass recycling and biogas power generation, were implemented over five years at its Barcelona factory, the company said.
