The Kimberly-Clark 130,000-square-foot headquarters facility in Irving, Calif., has earned the EPA Energy Star rating. In two years, the company said that it has improved its rating by 52 points – from 38 to 90 – on the 100-point Energy Star scale, and saved 2,341,470 kWh over the past 27 months.

The Corius office building, developed by Globe Trade Centre (GTC) in Warsaw, has received LEED Gold certification in the Core and Shell rating system. The 8,840-square-meter facility is the second building in Poland to have received LEED certification in this system, the Warsaw Voice said.

The St. Charles Park District in Kane County, Ill., has been awarded LEED Silver certification for the design and construction of the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center. Hickory Knolls features a geothermal heating and cooling system, a water efficiency program, the Kane County Chronicle writes.

Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tenn., has become the first passenger-vehicle manufacturing facility to attain ISO 50001 and Superior Energy Performance certifications, accredited under the American National Standards Institute and National Accreditation Board. In addition to the new ISO 50001 and SEP certifications, the Smyrna manufacturing facility has been an Energy Star certified efficient plant since 2006, the company said.

ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has achieved its ISO 50001 certification for energy management systems (EMS). TÜV Nord conducted the audit over six months at seven production sites. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe is the first European steel company with an energy management system certified to this standard, writes BYM Product and Industry News.

The European Central Bank has recently been re-awarded environmental certification in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard and the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The main accomplishment of the EMS has been a about 30 percent reduction in carbon emissions in 2011 compared with 2009. The bank said it was environmentally certified for the first time in 2010.

UAE-based facilities management service provider EFS Facilities Services has achieved ISO 14001 for environmental management, OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety management, and other ISO certifications for it for its UAE, KSA, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman operations, Construction Week Online said.

Smithfield Foods' hog production subsidiary Murphy-Brown has been recertified to ISO 14001 standard for environmental management. The audit The audit covered nine randomly selected Murphy-Brown facilities with all nine receiving high marks and overall no violations for non-conformance. Smithfield Foods said it was the first company in the pork industry to achieve ISO 14001 environmental certification for both its US hog production and pork processing facilities.
