A new voluntary consensus standard for climate accounting metrics is in development under the ANSI process, and is now nearing draft publication. LEO-SCS-002 complements international standards for life-cycle assessment, and is aligned with the most recent discoveries in the field of climate science. For example, the draft standard's climate metrics will make it possible for the first time for carbon registries to account for the effects of short-lived climate pollutants such as black carbon and tropospheric ozone. The standard was part of discussion at the 2013 Climate Leadership Conference sponsored by the American Climate Change Officers, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, the Climate Registry, and the EPA, SCS said.
The R2 Technical Advisory Committee has released an updated timeline for the R2:2013 Standard. After a review of all public comments and implementation of appropriate changes, the committee has reviewed a final draft, and it is expected to be approved this week. The new standard should be released in June after a board review. The R2 Code of Practices, applicable to the R2:2013 Standard, are also in development and will become the rules for the R2 certification process, the organization said.

The Aqua-Jet can help municipalities comply with the 80µg/l locational running annual average limit specified in the EPA Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule through air stripping, the company said.
Roppe Corporation, a manufacturer of flooring, tread, and wall base products, has earned NSF/ANSI 332, Sustainability Assessment Standard for Resilient Flooring. SCS conducted the assessment and certified Roppe's products, making them qualified for the federal government's P100 purchasing requirement, SCS said.
The Palace Downtown in Dubai, UAE, has earned re-certification to the Green Globe travel and tourism industries standard. The hotel has also undertaken sustainable initiatives in line with the UAE’s Green Economy for Sustainable Development program. Farnek Avireal conducted the audit, Green Globe said.
