Smart technology retrofit into the Standard Chartered Bank’s offices in Singapore in 2013 and 2014 have achieve energy savings of 60 percent and reduced lighting fixtures by six percent, according to a story in the South China Morning Post.
The Redwood Building Intelligence Platform is from CommScope, a U.S. company. initially addressed lighting control. The energy savings soon led to implementation of the platform's full capabilities.
The system consists of a dense network of sensors which provide a tremendous amount of information on motion, temperature, light levels and many other elements that contribute to energy usage. The data is used in ways -- some obvious and some subtle -- to promote energy savings.
The success of the projects has led Standard Chartered to retrofit other buildings in Hong Kong and Singapore with the same system.
Construction Dive reported late last month that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, introduced a program to help private landlords refurbish buildings to increase efficiency, clean energy use and water conservation capabilities.
