The Star Tribune posted a story this week about the surge in rooftop solar panels on churches across Minnesota.
The story says that the most ambitious project will launch this fall at Shiloh Temple International Ministries in north Minneapolis. The plan is to construct a solar garden on the roof and generate energy to as many as 40 neighbors. The facility also will serve as a job-training program for low income people workers, the story says.
More broadly, the story says that a 2013 state energy law made solar projects more attractive. Over time, the law led to halving of the price of solar and resulted in the religious groups’ interest.
The Archdiocese of Chicago is active in energy efficiency projects. In July, the National Catholic Reporter described an energy efficiency project at St. Mary of the Angels Church in the Bucktown section on the city’s north side.
