Walmart Facade Energy ManageThe Chambers, AL, County Commission voted this week to approve a contract with AL Solar A LLC to bring 72 MW of solar power to the county, according to the Opelika-Auburn News.

The project would cost between $100 million and $140 million and provide 200 to 300 construction jobs. Walmart will use most of the renewable energy credits emerging from the project. The story says that Alabama Power, with which Walmart has a long term agreement, will market the rest of the renewable energy credits to interested entities.

The story says that the project is part of Walmart’s stated goal of using 100 percent renewable energy.

The project was approved last month by the Alabama Public Service Commission. The goal is to finish construction by December, 2017.
