Siemens will supply 65 wind turbines and 67 transformers for the Amazon Wind Farm - Fowler Ridge - in Indiana. The customer for the project is Pattern Energy. The 150 MW wind power plant will provide Amazon Web Services' data center with electricity. Installation is scheduled to begin in July, and commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2016. Siemens will also be providing long-term service for the wind turbines.
The model SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines each have a capacity of 2.3 MW and a rotor diameter of 108 meters. The nacelles for this project will be assembled in Hutchinson, Kansas. Rotor blades for the turbines are manufactured in Fort Madison, Iowa. The Mount Generation Step up (GSU) transformers for the project are produced in the Siemens plant located in Jackson, Mississippi.
In addition to the wind turbines and the associated service and delivery of transformers, Siemens Financial Services will also be providing $150 million of construction financing for Fowler Ridge.
At the end of 2014, Amazon pledged to run its data centers throughout the world with power from renewable energy sources.
