The US Senate yesterday approved a bill that authorizes the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Following the vote — the Senate voted 62 to 36 in favor of building the 1,179-mile oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico — the White House again said President Obama would veto the measure, the New York Times reports.
The US House of Representatives has already approved the pipeline.
Environmental groups said they look forward to Obama’s promised veto. It’s unlikely Congress will have the votes to override it.
The American Petroleum Institute, on the other hand, praised the Senate passage of the bill and urged Obama to sign it into law.
