Three Silicon Valley semiconductor chief executives told Mercury News that the nation's energy problems will be solved by computer chip companies looking for new ways to produce and conserve power.
In recent years, many semiconductor companies have developed chips that use less electricity and turn off unused parts of equipment to save power. But according to Brian Halla, National Semiconductor's CEO, John East, Actel's CEO and T.J. Rodgers, Cypress Semiconductor's CEO, energy related products will represent a much bigger business for the industry in the future.
Semiconductor firms were recently pointed to as leading the way on climate change initiatives.
