For every pound of plastic collected by participating Scouts—up to 100,000 pounds—CleanHub commits to removing an equivalent amount of plastic waste from global pollution hotspots. Local action directly fuels global change, scaling the fight against marine plastic pollution.
Beyond cleanup, the initiative is built around education. Scouts receive hands-on materials and resources to deepen their understanding of plastic pollution and build sustainable habits for the future.
Scouting for Clean Waterways is strengthened by collaborations with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and NOAA’s Marine Debris Program, who provide youth-centered educational tools to boost impact and engagement. These partnerships advance Scouting America’s mission to empower the next generation of environmental leaders.
Joel Tasche, CleanHub’s co-founder, noted that the collaboration brings together CleanHub’s technical capabilities in plastic waste recovery with Scouting’s strong grassroots community network. Roger Krone, CEO of Scouting America, emphasized the alignment with the organization’s long-standing commitment to conservation and youth development.
The campaign also signals a shift in CleanHub’s approach. Traditionally B2B-focused, CleanHub is now creating new opportunities for individuals to contribute directly. Participants can track the impact of their efforts, support plastic recovery, and connect with a global community committed to protecting ocean health.
By blending environmental action, education, and scalable global impact, Scouting for Clean Waterways offers a powerful new model for collaboration in the sustainability space.
