Schneider Electric has signed an $8.6 million contract extension to provide energy efficiency improvements to the the University of North Texas Health Science Center (pictured).
Upgrades to the center’s lighting, mechanical systems, PC power management systems and windows will be included in the new contract, reports Electrical Marketing.
The project guarantees annual energy savings of at least 24 percent on current levels, according to Electrical Marketing.
The contract is on top of a project that the Schneider signed with the University of North Texas in 2010 which guaranteed the college $42 million of energy savings over the next 20 years, according to UNT.
Both contracts are self funded, meaning that savings garnered from the efficiency improvements will pay for any work carried out by Schneider.
UNT’s Apogee Stadium has just been awarded a LEED Platinum certification, making it the first newly constructed collegiate football stadium in the nation to do so, according to the university.
Its sustainable features include three wind turbines that should provide 500,000 kwh per year of electricity for UNT, effectively eliminating 323 metric tons of CO2, according to the university.
The stadium's design should reduce energy consumption by 25 percent compared to a traditional stadium design. Its plumbing is designed to use 52 percent lest water than standard plumbing.
The 31,000-seat stadium was designed by HKS Sports & Entertainment Group and built by Manhattan Construction Company.
