Scaling Corrosion Control for U.S. Water Utilities

Partnership blends chemistry, data, and distribution at scale

Posted

Usalco, LLC has entered into a partnership with Shannon Chemical Corporation to broaden its capabilities in corrosion control, a key area of focus for municipal water systems under increasing regulatory pressure. The collaboration combines Shannon Chemical’s phosphate-based treatment formulations with Usalco’s manufacturing footprint and digital monitoring tools, creating a more integrated offering for utilities.

Shannon Chemical brings decades of experience in developing blended polyphosphate and orthophosphate treatments designed for varying water chemistries. These formulations are now being supported by Usalco’s national production and distribution network, along with its Corrosion Sentry platform and Decision Blue software. Together, these tools enable utilities to monitor system performance, analyze treatment outcomes, and adjust programs with greater precision.

The partnership builds on existing customer relationships rather than replacing them. It extends service capabilities by pairing established treatment programs with expanded logistics and technical support. For Usalco, the addition strengthens its corrosion inhibitor portfolio, while Shannon gains broader geographic reach and operational scale.

Meeting Regulatory Pressure With Integrated Solutions

The timing aligns with evolving compliance requirements, particularly the Enhanced Lead and Copper Rule, which places greater emphasis on proactive corrosion control, system monitoring, and documentation. Utilities are increasingly expected to demonstrate consistent performance, making fragmented approaches less effective.

By integrating treatment chemistry with data-driven tools, the partnership supports more tailored corrosion control strategies. Shannon’s formulations can be applied within Usalco’s analytics platforms, allowing utilities to better align treatment with system-specific conditions. This reflects a wider shift toward predictive management, where decisions are informed by ongoing data rather than reactive adjustments.

The collaboration also emphasizes long-term system performance. Joint research and expanded technical teams are intended to help utilities design corrosion control programs that support both compliance and infrastructure durability.

Scaling Expertise Across a National Footprint

Access and consistency remain ongoing challenges for many water systems, particularly as infrastructure needs vary across regions. Usalco’s network of manufacturing and logistics facilities provides nationwide coverage, helping to stabilize supply and improve responsiveness. When paired with Shannon’s specialized product line, the combined platform offers utilities a more consistent approach to corrosion control.

The partnership also reflects broader consolidation trends in the water treatment sector. Suppliers are increasingly combining chemical solutions with technical services and digital tools to meet rising expectations around safety, transparency, and system performance.

The focus is on improving how existing solutions are delivered and managed rather than introducing new chemistry. By aligning treatment expertise with data and distribution, the collaboration supports utilities navigating a more complex regulatory and operational landscape, where corrosion control remains central to protecting public health and infrastructure.
