The William S. Hart Union School District, which serves Santa Clarita, CA, has contracted with Alliance Buildings Solutions for an energy efficiency upgrade project.

Home Town Station reports that the deal covers lighting, heating, HVAC and advanced battery storage at several locations in the district. Payment is through Proposition 39, a voter-approved measure that allocates $550 million for eligible projects across the state.

One innovative feature of the project is a battery system that will detect peak power use and adjust consumption accordingly. The overall project will cost about $9.6 million. A conservative estimate is that savings will be $500,000 annually.

Here is background on Proposition 39 from Jim Maclay, the Associate Principal for Altura Associates.
