Safe Shredding of Dangerous Waste

shredderLindner-Recyclingtech’s tailor-made shredder has helped its customer Ecoltecnica shred medical waste efficiently and in a manner that is safe to workers and the environment, the company says.

Italian company Ecoltecnica required a shredder that would not only meet the stipulations of European law for processing hazardous waste, but that would also comply with the company’s high standards. Lindner-Recyclingtech engineers developed a solution: the housing of the machine was manufactured absolutely gastight for protection of the outside area.

Additionally, the shredder was positioned very specifically: the Micromat (pictured) was set up in a flat angle so that liquids can easily drain off during operations and maintenance. Lindner-Recyclingtech says this simplifies cleaning and results in a safe and clean environment in and around the machine.

Compared to other shredding technology in this field, the Lindner single shaft solution incurs very low running cost; service and maintenance can be undertaken directly by the customer without any special tools, the company says.

A Harris Poll commissioned by Johnson & Johnson last fall found the majority of hospitals have plans in place for minimizing environmental impact when using or disposing of medical products.
