Rockstart is taking applications for the 2016 Smart Energy Accelerator program. The company, which calls itself the “Global Startup Machine,” says that the program will feature a network of more than 75 smart energy mentors, investors and energy partners. Ultimately, 10 startups will be chosen for the program, which is being conducted in Amsterdam. The goal is to find young companies that will drive sustainability on global energy systems, the press release says.
The 2016 Smart Energy Accelerator program focuses on “the Internet of Energy Things.” Rockstart wants to nurture Internet technology startups to promote and support the transition to more sustainable energy. Partners in the program include Alliander, Cofely, Accenture, the City of Amsterdam, Stichting DOEN, Bird & Bird and Elevate Consulting Group.
There are deep connections between energy and the Internet in a couple of ways. The Internet in general and the Internet of Things (IoT) in particular can lead to great sustainability gains. At the same time, the devices and data centers that drive these networks use huge amounts of energy.
