Rockleigh Borough Installing LEDs, Low Energy AC

Posted

LEDRockleigh Borough in New Jersey is replacing 200 lightbulbs with LEDs and installing a two-ton air conditioner in the borough hall to improve energy efficiency and cut utility costs, according to newjersey.com.

The project, which is being done under the aegis of  the New Jersey Clean Energy Program’s Direct Install initiative, pays as much as 70 percent of the retrofit costs. In this case, the air conditioner and LEDs will cost about $20,700. Rockleigh is paying about $6,213 and the state $14,497.

Under the program, which dates from 2008, New Jersey will pay as much as $125,000 of the project. To qualify, the equipment can’t use more than 200 kilowatts a month.

This spring, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved the state’s first storage incentive commitments program. It totaled $2.9 million and is impacting 13 proposed projects. The sites were given the go-ahead to install energy storage systems integrated with customer-sited renewable energy generating facilities. The two highest capacity sites were the Cumberland County Utilities Authority (1,500 kW) and the Jersey City Municipal Services Complex (1,250 kW).
