Portable gensets powered by renewable resources offer advantages but are unlikely to displace traditional diesel and gas gensets, according to Frost & Sullivan.
The advantages of renewable gensets are that they don’t require the constant refueling or contribute to air pollution. Traditional gensets have “gained the trust of end users over the last 50 years” and therefore are unlikely to be displaced, the firm concludes.
Frost & Sullivan does say, however, that the new approach is particularly useful in sectors such as the military, consumer electronics, residential, humanitarian and industrial. Reliability fears and high prices – there can be a ten-fold difference between portable battery packs and renewable approaches – also are slowing down acceptance.
