ProLogis, a distribution facilities company, plans to install a 2.4-megawatt solar system in partnership with Portland General Electric (PGE) that will cover 900,000-sq.-ft. of rooftop across seven warehouses in Portland, Gresham and Clackamas, Oregon. This is PGE's second rooftop project with ProLogis, which now totals 3.5 megawatts of solar energy.
The solar install features UNI-SOLAR "thin-film" solar panels that are similar to the ones used on the 1.1-megawatt rooftop project PGE and ProLogis brought online in 2008.
Helping to meet the state's renewable energy standard that utilities provide 25 percent renewable energy by 2025, the latest project increases PGE's total solar installs to more than 12 megawatts, including the 104-kilowatt solar highway project with the Oregon Department of Transportation and 9.1 megawatts of customer-owned solar energy projects. PGE is currently at 10 percent renewable energy, of which most is from wind power.
PGE and U.S. Bank formed a joint venture, SunWay 3 LLC, which will own and operate the system, to secure state and federal solar tax credits to help finance the project.
The two organizations formed a similar joint venture in 2008 to finance the 1.1-megawatt project with ProLogis and the nation's first solar highway in Oregon.
