The photovoltaic solar array should generate more than 1.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity during its first year of operation, and more than 34 milion kWh over 20 years, according to a press release.

The solar project, installed by SunEdison, was activated just this week. The project took just two and a half months from start to activation, said Vera Ingenhuett, Plant Manager of the P&G Oxnard facility.

P&G estimates that, over its lifetime, the solar array will help mitigate carbon emissions equivalent to 36.9 million pounds.

Earlier this year, P&G touted how it cut its emissions and water use in half.

The company also aims to make “green” sales a bigger part of its portfolio. By 2012, P&G says it wants to sell $50 billion “green” items.
