Parker Hannifin is saving $600,000 a year in energy costs alone thanks to a partnership project with 1E to streamline its data center and cut power costs, according to a case study (PDF) from 1E. The manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems was looking to solve several challenges ranging from power-wasting PCs to time-consuming software updates, patches and distributions.
Parker deployed an integrated suite of 1E software including Nomad Enterprise, which automatically distributes software and patch updates, and NightWatchman WakeUp, 1E's power management solution. The project eliminated the need for 458 servers, delivering an immediate savings of $2 million, and cut the manufacturer's electricity demand by 6,176,000 kW.
Since its launch, NightWatchman has cumulatively saved 1E customers $530 million in energy savings, which represents savings of 5.6 million megawatts of electricity or 4 million metric tons of CO2 emissions, according to the company.
Parker also selected Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) to manage, support and maintain its distributed network of computer resources.
“We've saved a substantial amount on hardware and software costs and reduced our energy usage -- but that’s all a given with 1E. What we can't easily assign a dollar value to is the sheer resource and time savings that we’ve been able to achieve now that our IT team and end users can stay more focused on strategic initiatives,” said Michael Powlison, IT project leader for Parker, in a statement.
Other companies including Ford and HSB also have realized significant energy savings by implementing 1E's software solutions. Ford expects to save $1.2 million and reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 16,000 to 25,000 metric tons annually, while HSBC expects to cut its energy costs by $1 million and energy use by 7,267,865 kWh by implementing 1E's NightWatchman and Nomad software.
