Paragon Software Systems’ routing and scheduling optimization software has helped Sainsbury’s save 142,245 gallons of fuel across four sites, cut CO2 emissions by 3.1 million pounds and reduce overall travel distance by 3.8 percent annually.
The UK supermarket chain uses Paragon’s Resource Manager to plan routes against individual driver shifts and available vehicle resources. It also uses Paragon Fleet Controller to monitor the delivery schedule.
Additionally, 16 Sainsbury’s depots use an Integrated Transport Management System, which integrates Paragon’s planning optimization with telematics to improve daily transport plans. The system has increased driver productivity by 8 percent, improved empty running by 12 percent, cut store turnaround times by 15 percent and increased on-time delivery levels by 17 percent annually, the software company says.
Convenience stores are also cutting transportation costs by using Paragon software.
George’s Chicken reduced its fleet size by 10 percent, cut road miles by 5 percent, and reported saving $31,000 a year on fuel costs. George’s has 250 stores in the Northeast US.
Another company, Hagopian Cleaners, reduced its fleet mileage by 10 percent a year, and had an annual fuel cost reduction of $7,500 for 27 vans while using the program. The company reports a cumulative five year savings of $250,000.
