LED lamps bring great promise of energy savings, and now an international group of companies from the lighting industry are working together on standard specifications for the interfaces of LED light engines.
Companies involved in the effort are Acuity Brands Lighting, Cooper Lighting, OSRAM, Panasonic, Philips, Schréder, Toshiba, TRILUX and Zumtobel Group.
The group has chosen the moniker Zhaga.
Zhaga intends to enable interchangeability between LED products made by diverse manufacturers.
Zhaga standards will cover the physical dimensions, as well as the photometric, electrical and thermal behaviour of LED light engines.
Zhaga aims to prevent market fragmentation into incompatible light engines.
Other companies have been invited to join Zhaga, including firms such as LED light engine and LED luminaire vendors, as well as suppliers of components such as heat sinks and optics.
Zhaga will hold its first meeting in March.
